Beers

Find great quality beers to accompany your favorite barbecue. Discover unique varieties of ale (sparkling beer) and lager (bottom-fermented beer).

  • ale: In Greek it is also called foamed beer or foam beer, because the specific yeast, during fermentation, rises to the surface of the wort. This type of beer undergoes fermentation at relatively high temperatures of 15-23 °C while post-fermentation usually lasts a short time. Wheat beers (Weizenbier or Weißbier) are also a subcategory of the fermented ones.
  • lager: The beers in this category are the most widespread and consumed the most. They are prepared using the yeast Saccharomyces carlsbergensis. Their yeast, during fermentation, settles at the bottom of the wort for this and are called bottom fermenters or bottom yeast beers in Greek. Lagers are fermented at lower temperatures, usually 6-12 °C while the post-fermentation process takes a few months. For this reason, the finally produced beer is stored in warehouses, which led to the term lager, which in German means warehouse. Pils also belongs to bottom-fermented beers, but it differs from Lagers in terms of hop content.
